We welcome new patients to Awal Medical Centre. We would appreciate your patience in filling out our new patient information form, as this will facilitate the setup of your care at our clinic. Please bring your past medical records and your medication on your first visit.
Awal Medical Centre is a mixed billing practice. All pension card and Veterans Affairs card holders are bulkbilled. A concession is offered to Health Care Card holders. All children under the age of 16 years are bulkbilled. We strictly do not bulk bill on Saturdays. A list of fees is available at the reception desk.
Out of pocket costs may be incurred for some procedures, wound dressings and medicals performed by our doctors.
Please call one of our friendly reception staff that will help organise an appointment for you at the most appropriate and suitable time for you. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time/doctor.
Being late is annoying for patients and stressful for staff and doctor. If you have multiple issues to discuss, we suggest that you make a longer appointment. This will give our doctor’s adequate time to manage your concerns.
Alternately, feel free to use our online booking system here.
Please let our reception staffs know if an urgent appointment is needed. We will have our practice nurses triage your concerns and make appointments accordingly.
As a courtesy to our other patients, please call the clinic 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to cancel and reschedule if need be. Failure to cancel appointments will incur a fee.
We at Awal Medical Centre understand that your time is precious. Our doctors strive to keep waiting times to a minimum. Unexpected delays and emergencies in general practice is sometimes unavoidable, and the reception staff will advise you on arrival if prolonged waiting times are expected.
Please make an appointment in 3 to 4 days time to follow up your investigations. If your results need urgent discussion, a phone call will be made by our practice for you to make an appointment. It is the policy of the practice that results will not be given over the phone; some exceptional cases will be dealt by the doctor himself. The practice will not ring you with the results.
Patients will need to make an appointment for scripts. Repeat scripts are not provided without a consultation as this is not consistent with good medical care. A brief appointment will be made for you so that the doctor is able to check that the requested medication is still appropriate. The time allocated will be brief and the doctor will not have time to discuss other matters. The short consultation is to review medication only and to ensure safe prescribing is always carried out. These will not be provided over the phone.
Patients will need to make an appointment for referral letters. This will not be provided over the phone.
We do childhood, adolescence, adult and Travel vaccinations. These are performed by our qualified practice nurse. These consultations are bulk-billed.
Home visits are available to patients within a 5km radius of the practice. Home visits will have to be requested and approved by the doctor prior to the appointments being made. Doctors will visit patients at a suitable time that is convenient to them.
Our practice is committed to preventative care. Our doctor will seek your permission to be included on our recall system. We may issue you a reminder notice from time to time offering you preventative health services appropriate to your care. If you do not wish to be part of this system please let your doctor or receptionists know.
Doctors are not available to answer telephone enquires during consulting hours. The nurse or the receptionist may be able to assist you. If this is not sufficient, the doctor will return your call during his/her breaks or after consultation hours.
Your medical records are a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain the security of personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorized members of the staff. We are a paperless practice. All your information is in the computer which is password protected. We abide by the 10 National Privacy Principles available at: www.privacy.gov.au/health/.
